fantast

Fantast Castle is settled nearby the town of Becej and is built by landowner Bogdan Dundjerski, as a summer house. There is one tall square tower on the castle from where you have the magnificent view over the plain, and a few minor cylindrical towers. There are also huge gardens nearby, a church, stables with horse farm, additional buildings etc. The Castle is surrounded by wide park. Of all the castles in Vojvodina, Fantast is definitely the most impressive and the most noticeable.

getting there

The Fantast Castle is located on the 12th kilometer of the road Becej - Backa Topola. You can get to Becej by direct bus line from Novi Sad (ten buses per day, between 08:50 and 21:00), and from Becej to the Fantast Castle you have to use your own transportation or to walk there. From Novi Sad to Becej and back ten buses are operating a day, except on weekends when they don’t go that often.

There is no organized transportation to the castle but, as the road is pretty busy, you can go to the exit from Becej, where the road to Backa Topola begins, and try to hitch-hike. Or you can take the bus Becej - Backa Topola and ask the driver to stop near the Fantast Castle.

things to see

The Castle itself represents impressive white building, with one big square tower and a few smaller, cylindrical towers on the corners. The interior is beautiful, and there is a wine cellar in the basement where, from time to time, you can listen to tamburitza players. The Castle is surrounded by plains, so the tower can be seen from the great distance.

In the yard of the Castle the Church of St George is settled, built at the same time when the castle itself and it’s painted by Uros Predic, famous baroque painter. The painting of the Mother of God, it is said, has the face of Mara Dinjacki, woman Dundjerski was in love with. Inside the complex there is a mausoleum where the creator of the castle is buried. The park with the lake surrounds the castle.

The horse lovers will be interested in the information that there is a horse breeding farm with 80 horses and training track within the castle. A little house with the ostriches is placed in the park and also an additional building where the cinema "Bratstvo i jedinstvo", a real curiosity even now, worked.

Guided tour costs 1€ per person.
